The Supreme Court of the United States, the highest court in the land, stands as the final arbiter of the Constitution. At its helm sits Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., a man whose life and career have intersected with some of the most consequential moments in American history.

Born in Buffalo, New York in 1955, Roberts attended Harvard University and Harvard Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude. After clerking for Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist, he embarked on a successful career in private practice.

In 2005, President George W. Bush nominated Roberts to the Supreme Court. He was confirmed by the Senate in a close vote of 78-22, and became the 17th Chief Justice of the United States.
